    Maggie is completing her PhD in international rural development from Lincoln University under the NZ Commonwealth scholarship and is an African Women in Agriculture Research and Development Fellow (AWARD). She holds a lecturer position and is currently serving as Deputy Head of Department (DHoD) for the Department of Agriculture and Food Systems at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR). Her recent work expands on the advancement of measures of women’s empowerment in agriculture ultilizing  IFPRI tools/index and models. Maggie is also integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches to agriculture development and climate change.

    Before joining academia, she served multiple positions with both local and international NGOs including the Centre for Youth Empowerment and Civic Education and the United Nations Women where she championed the Women Economic Empowerment  (WEE) programs. Maggie has led teams conducting both independent and collaborative research with grants from USAID, World Bank, IFAD, etc. She is currently being mentored to become a leader in research for policy at the Directorate of Research and Outreach at LUANAR. Maggie is also an ambassador for the African League of Young Masters (ALYM) promoting and advocating for sustainable livelihoods through youth engagement in institutional and policy reforms, climate justice, sustainable agriculture and technologies, gender and youth entrepreneurship.
